About this policy

It explains what information is handled when you visit and use them.

Information you enter into a tool

Tool inputs and calculations are processed in your browser. For example, LedgerLift reads a statement file in your browser to prepare a conversion, and the calculators, generators, word counter and developer utilities process the values or text you provide on your device. Northlane does not receive these inputs through the tools’ application code, and the tools do not create an account or save a history of your work.

Some tools, such as the Electricity Cost Calculator, can copy a share link. That link contains the values you entered, so anyone you send it to can see them, and they reach our hosting provider as part of the page address when the link is opened. Nothing is added to a link unless you choose to copy it.

The BMI Calculator can remember whether you use metric or imperial units if you tick “Remember my units on this device”. Only that choice is kept, in your browser’s local storage; your measurements are never saved. Untick the box to remove it.

The List Randomizer can keep your list on this device if you tick “Remember this list on this device”. It is stored only in your browser’s local storage and is deleted when you untick the box.

The Timesheet Calculator can likewise keep your timesheet on this device if you tick “Save this timesheet on this device”; untick it to delete it.

The Business Card Maker keeps your design, including any logo you add, in this browser only if you tick “Keep this design on this device”. Logos are never uploaded.

The GPA Calculator, Calorie & Macro Calculator and Character Counter keep your entries (for the Character Counter, only which limit meters you show) in this browser’s local storage only if you tick “Remember on this device”; untick it to delete them.

Font Pairing Tool and Google Fonts. The Font Pairing Tool shows previews using fonts served by Google Fonts, but only after you press “Load font previews”. From then on your browser downloads the stylesheets and font files for the fonts on screen directly from fonts.googleapis.com and fonts.gstatic.com, so Google receives your IP address and standard request details such as your browser’s user agent and the referring page, under Google’s privacy policy. Google states that the Google Fonts API does not set cookies and does not use this data for advertising profiles. If you tick “Remember on this device”, that choice is kept in local storage. Text you type into the preview is never sent to Google or to us.

Citation Generator DOI lookups. If you press “Look up” in the Citation Generator, the DOI you entered — and nothing else — is sent from your browser to Crossref (api.crossref.org), and to DataCite (api.datacite.org) if Crossref has no record, to fetch the publication details. These are the official DOI registration agencies; their own privacy policies apply to the request, which also carries your IP address and browser details as any web request does. No lookup happens unless you press the button. Everything else you type into the Citation Generator stays in your browser.

Background Remover downloads. The Background Remover processes images on your device; they are never uploaded. To do this it downloads an AI model file from Hugging Face (huggingface.co) and the ONNX Runtime engine from jsDelivr (cdn.jsdelivr.net) the first time you use it, and keeps them in your browser’s storage. Those services receive an ordinary download request (including your IP address) but no images or other information you enter.

Image to Text (OCR) language downloads. The OCR engine and English language data are loaded from this site. If you choose another language and tick the consent box, that language’s data file is downloaded from jsDelivr (cdn.jsdelivr.net). That service receives an ordinary download request (including your IP address) but never your images or the text found in them.

Northlane Transfer. Unlike the other tools, Transfer sends data to our server, because it relays it from one device to another. Before anything is uploaded, your browser encrypts the text, files and file names with a key derived from the transfer code; the code and key are never sent to us, so we receive and store only encrypted data, a lookup token derived from the code, and random secrets your devices use to manage the transfer (stored as one-way hashes). The encrypted data is kept in an expiring datastore (a Redis database from Redis Cloud, connected through Vercel) for no longer than the expiry you choose — at most one hour — and is deleted sooner once it is received or revoked. To prevent abuse we count requests per connection using a keyed hash of your IP address that expires within an hour; we don't store the address itself. While a transfer you sent is active, the sending tab keeps its lookup token and management secret (not the code or any key) in session storage so you can still revoke it after a reload; it is removed when the transfer ends or the tab is closed. Received content is never stored in your browser. Our servers don't log transfer contents, codes, tokens or links. The Transfer page has no advertising, analytics or third-party scripts. Anyone who has a transfer's code or link can receive it, and recipients can keep what they receive.

File tools. The Image Compressor, Image Resizer & Cropper, HEIC to JPG Converter, Image Metadata Remover, PDF Page Organizer, Merge & Split PDF, Compress PDF, JPG to PDF & PDF to JPG, Color Palette Generator (image colour extraction), Favicon Generator, JSON to CSV Converter and CSV Cleaner read your files in your browser. Any decoders they need (for example the HEIC decoder) are loaded from this site. Files and their contents are not uploaded, logged or stored.

Your browser still has to request the site’s pages and software from our hosting provider. As with any website, the provider may process basic connection and security data described below. Do not use these tools to process information you are not authorized to use.

Hosting and security data

Our hosting and delivery providers may automatically receive technical information when your browser requests a page or file. This can include your IP address, browser and device information, requested URL, referring page, and the date and time of the request. Providers may use this information to deliver the site, prevent abuse, troubleshoot problems and maintain security, under their own terms and privacy notices. Northlane does not use information entered into a tool as a server-side user profile.

Cookies, analytics and advertising

The tools do not require an account and do not use cookies to save your tool inputs or history. If we add analytics or other optional technologies, we will update this policy to describe them.

Northlane Tools show ads through Google AdSense. Google and its advertising partners may use cookies or similar technologies to show, personalize, limit, and measure ads. Those technologies may collect or use information such as your IP address, browser or device identifiers, ad interactions and visits to pages where ads appear. Google’s use of information is governed by Google’s partner sites policy. You can review or change Google ad personalization through Google Ads Settings. Browser settings may also let you control cookies. Ad availability and controls depend on your region and Google’s requirements.

Visitors from the European Economic Area, the UK and Switzerland are asked for consent before advertising cookies are used, and can accept, decline or manage their choices. You can also opt out of some third-party vendors’ personalized ads at aboutads.info.

Children

Northlane Tools are general-purpose utilities and are not designed to collect personal information from children. Please contact us if you believe a child has provided personal information to Northlane.

External websites

A tool may link to another website or service. Those sites operate under their own privacy policies, and we are not responsible for their practices.
